Concession for the biggest energy project in Bosnia&Herzegovina

The Government of Republika Srpska has issued the decision to grant the concession for the construction and use of TPP Stanari to the EFT Group.

“The planned installed capacity of TPP Stanari is 410 MW, and the facility will generate 3000 GWh of electricity per year, which is roughly one quarter of the total electricity generation in Bosnia and Herzegovina” read today’s statement issued by the Government of Republika Srpska.

The total project value is in the region of EUR 800 million, with about 40% of the investment expected to stay in the local economy. EFT has stated that this is the construction of the first thermal power plant in the former Yugoslavia region in the past 30 years.

“The decision of the Government of Republika Srpska is an extremely significant step towards the realisation of the project. TPP Stanari is the first energy production facility in the region which is being constructed in compliance with the EU directives on environmental protection. This will be the most advanced TPP in the western Balkans and from 2013 will significantly reduce the electricity deficit in south-east Europe starting”, said Nenad Savić, EFT Group communications director.

3000 people are expected to be employed on the construction of the Stanari plant. Negotiations are under way with the European bank for Reconstrcution and Development (EBRD) and commercial banks on project funding.

EFT is the leading energy trading company in south-east and central Europe. The company delivered 15 000 GWh of energy in 2007 and achieved a turnover of over EUR 800 million.
