As
the Group Marketing Director, David Surtees is responsible for
origination and structured deals throughout the EFT territory.
David
is an accomplished director & manager, strategic planner, trader,
originator and business developer with nearly 30 years working
experience within large Investment banks, US listed Corporations,
Utilities, trading companies, merchants and brokers.
David started his career as a pit trader on the London Metal
exchange for Cominco, the large Canadian Zinc mining company. In
1984 he joined the Gerald Metals Group and was responsible for the
Groups Aluminium portfolio.
In 1988
David joined the American trading giant Drexel Burnham as VP Head of
Global Aluminium trading. In 1990 following the fall of the Junk bond
market and the demise of Drexel Burnham, David was part of the team that
transferred the Drexel franchise, portfolio and customer base to
PaineWebber.
In the
early 1990’s Global Investment Banks became very interested to enter the
Commodities trading world as this put them in the path of lucrative
project finance, trade finance and stock finance opportunities.
In 1994
David joined Union Bank of Switzerland where he was instrumental in
building up the Banks commodities presence before being hired away by
rival Deutsche Bank AG where he was appointed Global Head of the Banks
Commodities Group.
As a
result of the Asian financial crisis in 1998 a change or direction
beckoned as commodities were very depressed.
In July
1999 David joined the US energy merchant Dynegy with a mandate to
develop the Groups Continental European Electricity and Gas trading
actives.
Following
the collapse of Enron in 2002 it became impossible for Dynegy to operate
in Europe so David was retained to close down all the Groups portfolios
and companies throughout Europe.
